Appendix E—Evaluation of Magnitude-Scaling Relationships and Depth of Rupture
نویسنده
چکیده
Continued use of magnitude-area scaling to estimate earthquake sizes is recommended. Area based on along-strike length and downdip width remains a good measure. Although questions have been raised concerning the depth extent of ruptures during large earthquakes, the seismogenic area remains a useful proxy for the purposes of estimating earthquake sizes. Four relations are examined here in terms of their potential use. A fifth relation, the Somerville (2006) relation, was rejected based on its dependence on trimmed areas from inverse modeling, which introduces an intermediate step of highly nonunique, model, and smoothingdependent processing of the data. The four magnitude-area scaling relations examined for estimating earthquake sizes are (1) Ellsworth-B, (2) Hanks and Bakun (2002), (3) Shaw (2009), and (4) a Wells and Coppersmith-type linear relation between M and log10A. (1) The Ellsworth-B relation is:

Evaluation of Hybrid Fiber Reinforced Concrete Exposed to Severe Environmental Conditions
Hybrid fiber reinforced concrete (HFRC) consisting of two or more different types of fibers has been widely investigated because of its superior mechanical properties. In the present study, the effect of the addition of steel (0.25%, 0.5%, 0.75%, and 1% of concrete volume) and Polypropylene (0.2%, 0.4%, and 0.6% of concrete volume) fibers on the surface scaling resistance of concrete, depth of ...

Observing destroyed engineered structures and induced fatality due to faulting motivated engineers to consider possible solution for reducing damage to structures. Mitigations countermeasures should be applied when elusion is not possible. Finite element analyses verified through centrifuge model experiments is implemented in this study. Considering different fault dip Angel, critical position ...
متن کاملReport of A Case of Uterine Rupture in Pregnant Women Without Scar After Vaginal Delivery
Background: Uterine rupture in pregnancy and labour is a fetal complication. Prevalence of uterine rupture in pregnancy in women with no previous uterine scare specially, nulliparous women without any risk is rare. Risk factors of uterine rupture in women with no previous scare are such as trauma, obstetrics maneuvers, high parity, multiple babies and uterotonic agents. Casa Presentation: A 23 ...
متن کاملFractal dimension and earthquake frequency-magnitude distribution in the North of Central-East Iran Blocks (NCEIB)
The Gutenberg–Richter parameters (a and b), fractal dimension (DC), and relationships between these parameters are calculated for different regions of the North of Central-East Iran Blocks (NCEIB). The whole examined area (between 34°-36° N and 55°-61° E) is divided into 55 equal square grids. Both the a and b values for the frequency-magnitude distribution (FMD) and the fractal dimension (DC) ...
متن کاملSingle station estimation of earthquake early warning parameters by using amplitude envelope curve
In this study, new empirical relationships to estimate key parameters in Earthquake Early Warning (EEW) system including magnitude, epicentral distance and Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA) are introduced based on features of the initial portion of P-wave’s amplitude envelope curve. For this purpose, 226 time series recorded by bore-hole accelerometers of Japanese KiK-net are processed for earthq...
